Let's Blog Suikoden - Introduction

With the current and future games markets holding little interest for me (for the time being), I've decided to delve back into the archives for some classics. You've heard of a Let's Play, right? People playing a whole game and documented the experience in videos with commentary and all that? Well, I'm more of a writer than a talker so I've decided to adapt the format. I'm going to play through a game and log the whole thing in regular blog posts. Hope you enjoy!

We're beginning with Suikoden, a Konami JRPG released in 1995 for the PlayStation. The game's roughly based on a Chinese novel called Shui Hu Zhuan and is famous for featuring a huge number of playable characters (I think over one hundred but don't take that as gospel). It's reportedly comparable to FFVII in a lot of ways and, as one of the innumerable people who adore that game and franchise, I think it's about time I gave a chance to some other big JRPGs from years gone by and there can't be many better places to start than with Suikoden. I've briefly played the second game and enjoyed my time with it but haven't really devoted enough attention to the series... until now! I'll chronicle my playthrough in little posts here; discuss what's going on in the game, how I'm finding it, etc, and we'll see where the journey takes us!
